The second I saw this girl in the storybook I said "Illyee?" (which is how I say my Theia Eurydice's name). I think it must be the haircut (and skin tone?).

This all reminds my mom of how her mom made observations of Eurydice when she was little. And when she was two she began to want to play with the girls in her storybooks. The "lines" of reality were blurring into those of fiction. Well, Mama sees the same thing happening with me. For a while now, when we've read Cesar Chavez I would whine and try to grab the grapes from the page (when I was hungry). But, they were so plump and life-sized, and well, they just looked scrumptuous. Yesterday, when the Pigs in Cars, and Trucks, etc. go to the toy store, I wanted to go inside, too, to see what toys were in there. But I had to be satisfied with looking at the storefront on the cold page. (There are few other interesting instances in which this has happened, but mom can't remember now...), don't worry, I'll give her more to write about.

I have developed a very acute, pathological phobia of flies and ants, though. This morning at six I woke up and cried for Mama because there was a fly who landed on my crib! Later there was an ant in my sister's room when I was trying to play. Tears and everything! I just can't get comfortable with these other critters concept (who might crawl at me if they are wont). Mom tells me not to worry, and just to say 'hi' to them. I tried that tentatively, but I didn't feel very secure. I think that method won't help much longer (so far it's worked like a charm for things I've wanted or feared).

Well, that's the update for now.

xo (or, let me run away, and you chase me!)

TOUGH NIGHT

Well, I hate to tell you the fly returned. And unlike my mama wrote yesterday, I do now say fly (well, it might sound a little more like "vy", but I haven't said "wa" for fly in a long time- relative to my time, of course). So I didn't really get to take much of a nap yesterday. And in my tired condition, I managed to fall over on the sidewalk, and due to its unkempt condition, a rusty nail was waiting, right where I fell, and dug itself into the side of my head- right next to my temple.

I went to the hospital, though, and the "gagur" helped my "boo boo" by putting on some adhesive to repair my skin. Writing like this is tiring. Let me tell mom to sum up.

Highlights this week:

Very into Cars and Trucks and Things That Go book. Made mom read the same passage to me about 17 times yesterday (that was a first). It was the part about eating fresh corn before cooking it. My mom thinks I liked it because she's said the same thing to me. And every time she read it I laughed and said, "again".

"Auntie Pastry and Cousin Willie are selling fresh corn. It looks so good, Pa just can't wait to take a bite.
"No, Pa," says Ma. "Don't eat it yet! Wait until I cook it!"

Well, I'll bet you want to see my cool bandaid. Everybody told me how neat it was. And I reminded myself throughout the day about my boo boo, and the doctor, and my band aid. Everyone in the ER said I was really good. So good for my age. Everyone was proud of me. I was a little scared, and when it was all over I cried to let off some steam. But other than that, I kind of enjoyed the new experience. And I got to wear some really fun scrubs!

Other things I'm saying:

I answer most all yes or no questions. I can say whether I like or want something. I am very helpful and can retrieve all sorts of daily objects for mom. I am still a little overzealous in my affections and actions toward my sister. But if she ever coughs, I am the first one to pat her back (in case she's choking), and if you ask if she's okay, I'll tell you that she is.

I like to talk to people on the phone now, and I usually tell them the things I have either just done, or want to do.

This morning the first thing I said upon waking was "Lanna". (She's my friend.) Mom assumed I was having a dream about her, because I've never said anything like that upon waking before. I did later reiterate that I'd like to go to the park (and the beach, in particular) with Elanna, but that never got to happen. Mom forgot her phone today.

For the past four or so months, my hands-down favorite book was Harvesting Hope, The Story of Cesar Chavez. I love to chant "Viva la Causa" and "Si, se puede". And when we drove past the immigrant protests on May 1st, Mom rolled down the window so I could raise my fist and chant in solidarity with the protesters. It was fun. (It made a historical lesson very relevant, and imbued the situation with a whole new dynamic.)

Here's my boo-boo. I'm eating a piece of dried mango, here. I really love it, but for some reason, I get a kick out of calling it pumpkin- even though I used to call it mango. That's the way it goes with language acquisition. It's plastic in many regards.

FLIES AND OTHER FRIGHTENING STUFF

I don't know about you, but I sure find flies scary. Well, it's not exactly that, it's just that I'm starting to be really aware of my world in a whole new way. I guess you could say I feel my vulnerability more these days.

Yesterday my mom was painting and staining the porch and grating for hours. I was a great boy! I played on the sidewalk with my toys, and ran around the perimeter of the house a few times (which attracted a foot-cop, who didn't see my mom on the other side of the porch... He was just looking out for my best interests). Anyway, at one point I went to look at my neighbor's driveway, and they have a Nissan Pathfinder. It looks just like my Papi's old truck, so I kept alerting my mom, "Papi guck!" and she said, "Yes, it looks like Papi's truck, it's the same make and model, but it's our neighbor's truck." So I peered at it for a few more minutes, when all of a sudden it started by itself! How scary! I ran screaming and crying to my mama, who told me it was okay, and the neighbors had just started the car so they could drive off. Whew! Close call.

Today my mom put me in bed for a nap. I was happily lying in my crib, talking to "Awoow" and "bur" (ow-whew- gorilla, and yellow bird "bur"), when a fly descended on us and rested on my bed. Boy did I let out a hollar! My mom came running, thinking something was really wrong. She tried hard not to laugh, when I explained that it was a fly that was plaguing me. I think she understands, but sometimes, I think it's just been way too long since she's felt like that herself. So she tried to tell me that flies and ants can't hurt me (well, she conceded, an ant might give you a little bite, but it won't really hurt too badly). Anyway, I'm still not too sure. When she tried to return me to my crib an hour later, I was still fearful of the "wa" (aka fly). Well, I didn't see it when I laid down, and hopefully it won't come back!
INTRODUCTION

Hi!

I'm Aenaon.

I am just about to turn two years old. I've finally taken my mother's advice to start a blog. She thought it'd be a great way to document my development (in keeping with the modern age, of course), and to communicate with all my friends and relatives whom I don't get to see very often.

Hi, I'm back. I had to take a break to hug my sister so hard that I was smushing her on the ground. Now I really want my mama to read a book called Baby Animals to me. It's a great read. I highly recommend it to anyone in my age group. Even as an adult you might learn a thing or two from it (books are surprisingly illuminating that way- no matter what your age). I'll show you:

I was reading this book every day before I went to the Central Park Zoo with my mama, sister, and Theia Eurydice. The highlight for me was seeing the penguins. They were the greatest! Well, my sister is getting restless, as I am now (you know, I have extraordinary focus for a kid my age, but don't expect my attention span to last forever...)

Well, I'll be blogging again. Make sure you come back often and check in with me. I hope we get to see each other soon. There are so many of you I have yet to meet! Maybe my little cousins and friends can start blogging, too...the new generation takes over the etherwaves! Yeah! I like that!

See you soon!

Aenaon
